Jenny Andersson a obtenu un doctorat en histoire économique à l’Université d’Uppsala en 2003. Avant de rejoindre le CERI, elle a été chercheur  postdoctoral et chercheur invité à l’Institut Universitaire Europeen à Florence ainsi qu’au Center for European Studies de Harvard. Lauréate du concours du Conseil national scientifique suédois (Vetenskapsrådet), elle a été aussi professeur associée à l’Institut des études du futur à Stockholm. Sa thèse, sur les transformations de la social-democratie suédoise dans la période après-guerre, a été publiée en 2006 par Manchester University Press, Between Growth and Security: Swedish Social Democracy from a Strong Society to a Third Way. En 2009 elle a publié l’ouvrage The Library and the Workshop: Social Democracy and Capitalism in an Age of Knowledge chez Stanford University Press. Jenny Andersson est aussi membre du comité de rédaction du projet La nouvelle histoire de la Suède  aux éditions Norstedts.
