Alumnus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Saint-Cloud (1986); holds degrees in literature, sociology and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Paris I (1994). Visiting professor at the universities of Torino and Palermo (1994-2000), appointed at CNRS in 1994; joined CERI in 1998. Member of the editorial board (since 1987) and co-editor-in-chief (since 2006) of Politix; member of the editorial boards of Global Crime and Meridiana. Rivista di storia e di scienze sociali since 2003; member of FASOPO.
His Ph.D. dissertation concentrated on the social history of cronyism in Corsica from the end of the 19th century to the 1980s. His current research focuses on unofficial political practices (cronyism, corruption, mafia and politics) and the political history of Italy.
