Holds degrees from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (IEP) and a Ph.D. in political science from the university of Paris I-Sorbonne. Former deputy scientific director of the Department of Human and Social Sciences at CNRS (2002-2006). Patrick Michel is the director of the Centre Maurice Halbwachs and since 2008, chairman of the section n° 40 (Power – Politics – Organization) of the Comité national de la recherche scientifique.
In addition to his primary interest in Central Europe, his research focuses on the theoretical aspects of the relation between politics and religion.
